La Clemenza di Tito follows Emperor Tito as he grapples with betrayal and benevolence in his newfound position as head of an empire. Tito is shouldered with finding a way to rule justly and kindly within the complex constrains of power. We aimed to emphasize the turbulence of his emotional journey as well as explore the timeless nature of power’s potential to corrupt. To achieve this we created an environment that incorporated destruction and reconstruction by depicting a world reeling from hostile takeover with elements of scaffolding and renewal. By utilizing the materials, textures and gravitas of classical governmental structures combined with dynamic and modern structural design, we created a noble yet universal environment in which Tito could establish himself.

Our research into creating and immediate future/distant present of ambiguous political turmoil began with looking to modern revolutions, especially the recent coup d'etat attempt in Turkey. From there our research spread to interiors of public and governmental structures of gravitas that felt both classical and modern. We then amalgamated this research to create an angular marble interior which served as the hub of Tito's activity.
